Author Visit

The McGovern students were delighted with a visit from author / illustrator Michelle Nelson-Schmidt this afternoon.  Michelle read from many of her books including "fan" favorite:  Jonathan James and the Whatif Monster, the story of the a boy who learned to listen to his heart instead of his worries.

Michelle also shared many of the original paintings that accompany her stories.
You can listen to Michelle read one of her original stories each Wednesday night on her website: http://www.whatifmonsters.com/storytimelive.html

Thank you MEPTO for bringing Michelle to our school and to our children.

Community Read Aloud

The Medway Lions and the High School Lions Club, The LEOs, were the guest readers for McGovern School's third community read aloud event on Wednesday March 5, 2014 .  The preschool, kindergarten and first grade children were treated to a reading of the Dr Seuss story, The Sneetches.  In this Dr. Seuss story the Star Bellied Sneetches and the Plain Bellied Sneetches  learn to make friends with each other and discover the importance of treating each other with respect despite their differences.
A big thank you to the Medway Lions Club for generously donating a copy of the book to each classroom.

Braille Exhibit

Thanks to the efforts of Dawn-Rice Norton and the Medway Lions Club, McGovern School is hosting a Braille exhibit during the month of March.  The display graces the main hallway of the school and features biographical information about Louis Braille, inventor of the raised alphabet system, as well as samples of braille text.  The students at McGovern have been intrigued by the information displayed on the wall and love to interact with the exhibit each time they walk through the hallways.
