Avid Readers

Kindergarten Students are Avid Readers
Our kindergarten students have been working on becoming avid readers as part of the new reading units of study.  The students began the unit by discovering that an avid reader is someone who reads a lot, finds places to read everywhere, keeps a stack of books-in-waiting, can't stop reading, and really pays attention to the book.  Another part of being an avid reader is sharing our books with others, much like we do in our own book clubs. Students shared their books while in "reading playdates."  One of the ways children can share their books while on a reading playdate is by acting out the pages.  Below is a video showing a group of kindergartners role-playing a nonfiction book.  We are so proud of the progress the children have made this year!

Celebrations

Over eighty McGovern School students participated in the math calendar challenge that took place during the month of April.
Congratulations to all who took part in the calendar activities, especially those that completed an activity each of the thirty days. Today we chose one winner from each grade level to receive a fun math read aloud.

And the winners are:

Preschool: Nate Dorr
Kindergarten: Mason Fisher
First Grade: Jack Connolly
